Is Barnes & Noble Profitable & Expanding?

They said Barnes & Noble was dead. It appears to be reborn.

The nation’s largest book store retailer announced it will grow by 30 new stores this year. After years of shrinkage, and in the face of a recession, this is huge news.

B & N still has 125 fewer stores than it did at its peak 14 years ago, amidst the Great Recession, Borders closing down, and the e-book craze soaring.

The chain bookstore has 726 locations in 2008 nationwide. By the end of 2022, it had 600 stores.

Authors should consider re-thinking publishing with only e-books or print-on-demand outfits that are blocked from bookstores. Between B 7 N’s turnaround and the expansion of indie bookstores, the brick-and-mortar market is stronger now than it was a decade ago.
