Interview With Author Chris Jankulovski

1. What motivated you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and turning it into this book?  I started writing my book after a 2nd brain operation that almost killed me, so my 2 young sons would know who their father was. A year later I was back in the operating room to remove 6 cancers from my remaining left kidney, now half kidney. 5 days after my kidney operation things were not looking good. I needed to bargain for my life in order to improve my results. I decided to take my story public and pledged to inspire millions if I can get another 10 years of life with my original kidney.

2. What is it about and who is it for?  My story is about a young man who was diagnosed at 19 and would be dead by 30. Resulting in him giving up on any hope of a future, goes on wild adventure around the world, until a series of near-death experiences triggered a profound personal transformation that finally led him to live the life of his dreams.  Each adversity provided him with perspective to see life challenges in an entirely new way. He shares 5 life lessons.  This book is for anybody interested in living life to the fullest as a self-empowered individual, despite shortcomings, weakness or adversities you might be facing in your life.

3. What takeaways might the reader will be left with after reading it?  Readers will go on an adventure, it’s an action-packed emotional journey full of laughter and occasional cries, but overall, they will be filled with a new sense of hope and optimism for their own life. They will receive strategies on becoming a self-empowered individual, tools on bouncing back from adversities, solutions to finding a meaningful purpose in one's own life along with business lessons and so much more.

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design?  I thought the book title would be just keep going…..because that statement best represents my life, but my publisher could see a better title that represents my story better, Near Death Lessons.

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers?  Don’t rush it, don’t do it alone, don’t casually just write a book. I invested hundreds of thousands in creating my book over 6 years  to complete it. I Hired a number of writing assistants, worked with 3 ghost writers, 3 editors, a publishing team, etc.  There are a lot of people in the industry who are incredibly talented, work with the industry.

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?  I can’t comment about the book industry but we all know it is evolving and now more than ever authors have more ways to reach their audiences. I am working with a publisher, Beverly Hills Publishing, that has a winning formula and a different approach to publishing compared to traditional publishers.

7. What challenges did you overcome to write this book?  First and most importantly, I had to continue being alive. Other people take life for granted, I can’t. I have to be a successful business owner as well to afford new drugs that pause my hereditary condition in forming tumors.

8. How would you describe your writing style?  The writing style is conversational and empathetic. There are very strong feelings associated with my story however, I wanted to keep it succinct yet descriptive.

9. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours?  So, they can have a new level of hope and optimism in their life. To make personal transformations with their own mindsets. To live as empowered individuals.
