Why Do Most Authors Fail Their Dreams?

You read that right.  Authors fail their dreams.

Remember when kids would say: “The teacher failed me.” The teacher would say, “No, the student failed himself.”

So goes it with authors. They fail their books. Yes, authors are to take responsibility for their book’s plight.

Now, many books will go nowhere in the marketplace. Why? Simple economics. Only so many books can be purchased, only so many that an be read. But the question is: Will your book make the cut? Can you be a part of the books that do get bought and read?

Failure happens organically: Do nothing, and you likely will get that in return. To succeed, you need to initiate, push, and advocate. Plain and simple.

You may say: Well, if everyone did the things you say they should do, will they all sell well and get media coverage? Of course not. They will start to cancel each other out. But most are not doing all that they should or cold, so until that happens, don’t worry about that. Just do all that you can to make your book a success – and you position yourself to breakthrough.

Do nothing and you guarantee you will create a self-fulfilling prophecy – and fail.

Do something? No guarantee of anything, but you give yourself a chance at success.

Not all authors are the same, not all books are equal, and not all opportunities are the same or taken advantage of. Authors need to find what works for them by trying, experimenting, and being relentless.  Understand there are no easy paths, but that there are paths to potential success.  It starts with you taking a step on a path. Perhaps multiple paths.

An ordinary book with great marketing beats a great book with no marketing. Remember that. Believe it. Now act on it.
