Messages That Sell Books

What do you need to say to sell a book?

Whatever one needs or wants to hear — provided it is not a lie.

So, what do people need or want to hear?

Something that meets their needs, serves their wants, fulfills their dreams, and supports their values.

So, what could be their needs?

Anything that has to do with them getting, maintaining, or enhancing their life. It may relate to:

* Shelter

* Safety

* Food/Water

* Clothes

* Healthcare

* Spirituality

* Mental wellness

* Education

* Job/Career/Business

* Money

* Human companionship: love; friendship; family

Their wants could be to:

* Laugh heartily

* Play hard and be entertained

* Engage in sexual intimacy

* Shop until they drop

* Have hobbies

* Grow their career

* Travel to anywhere

* Own adorable pets who love us unconditionally

* Experience art, theater, books, museums

* Be immersed in nature and beauty

* Enjoy drinks, drugs, and moderately risky behavior

* Pleasing their ego

Their values and beliefs could be:

* Freedom and liberty

* How they approach life

* Treat people a certain way

* Convictions about issues

* Volunteering/charity

* Improving society

* Political opinions/government

They could fantasize about

* War and peace

* Extreme violence

* Erotica

* Being a hero, celebrity, or star athlete

* Getting rich quickly

* Living a very different life

Readers want something that will:

* Entertain them

* Enlighten them

* Inspire them

* Inform them

* Improve their lives

So, your goal is to take each of these factors into consideration when crafting a message that gets someone’s attention. If you can position your book to show that it addresses their needs, wants, desires, or fantasies, you will sell your book with greater chances of success.
