Authors Need These 10 Marketing Tools

Most authors need various tools and resources to assist their efforts to market and sell books. Below are 10 common needs — and their solutions.

  1. Looking to build up your mailing list and need to manage the process better? Try these mail list providers:

·         MailerLite

·         ConverKit

·         Flodesk

They each offer different sources to do things like:

  • Create sign-up forms
  • Divide your mailing list into various segments
  • Design nice-looking emails with imagery
  • Provide data on email open rates
  • Use various templates and help automate things
  • Register and store emails and information

2.       If you are looking to do giveaways and bundle items, which are great ways to build a mailing list, explore using BookFunnel, ProlificWorks, or BookSweeps.

  1. Want to know who your competition is? Go to Amazon Author Central and you will see a Customers Also Bought Items by section in the sidebar.
  1. If you seek to understand how to do Amazon advertising of your book, read Mastering Amazon Ads: An Author’s Guide by Brian D. Meeks or Amazon Ads Unleashed: Advanced Publishing and Marketing Strategies for Indie Authors by Robert J. Ryan.
  1. If you like BookBub and have an audiobook, see the promotions offered at their spinoff: Chirp. If you use Audible’s Audiobook Creation Exchange, you can offer up to 50 promo codes per audiobook, per country. These codes provide you an opportunity to gift audiobooks to listeners, with the hope of getting more reviews.
  1. To get more reads, use images with anything online. For instance, use more images on your website to make it attractive. Post an image with every blog post to draw people in. Share visuals on your social media timelines. Infographics, original photography, or unique memes will work better than clip art and free images.
  1. Want to create merchandise or swag to sell or to promote your book and website? From bookmarks and t-shirts to bags and mugs, a range of things can be produced at Society6.com, Cafepress.com,Teespring.com, Redbubble.com, or Zazzle.com. You can get more creative and sell things that you see in gift shops -- pillows, posters, notebooks, phone cases, hats, jewelry, puzzles, etc.
  1. Contemplating marketing your book in a newsletter? Check out Paul Hartunian’s Million-Dollar Publicity Strategies at www.prprofits.com
  1. Need help on trying to identify your key words? Try these free research tools:

·         Wordtracker.com

·         Google Key Word Tool

You can also pay to get more advanced data from Publisher Rocket or K-lytics.
