1. What motivated you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and turning it into this book? It was a persistent idea that I woke to every morning. The only way I know to resolve an insistent internal signal is to respond to it the best way I can.
2. What is it about and who is it for? It is a tale that presents an emerging mythology for the new Epoch of the Age of Aquarius. It sounds like a large task, but looking forward, we need a plan. The story seeks to bridge the gap between scientific method and spirituality. It also seeks to create religious syncretism - a coming together of religions under a common faith. It is for people who are scientific who are curious about matters and behavior of faith and for people of faith who are curious about potential ways forward on their spiritual path.
3. What takeaways
might the reader will be left with after reading it? Never underestimate
the power of an idea and the groundswell of human potential that it may
inspire.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? The title, Holy Parrot, is the English translation of the Spanish, Loro Santo. This is the name given to the macaw in the story that is initially called Gabriel. The relationship of this bird to a village girl called Maria sends a ripple across the globe. The cover design is a reflection of both the role of Gabriel and Maria in the story.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers? Listen to the quiet hints and persistent feelings. Inspiration is not necessarily heralded by trumpets.
6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? I was invited to attend a book publishing certificate course at Yale University. I attended, and I believe the book publishing industry is moving towards becoming decentraliZed due to the direct access audiences now have with content providers due to advances in communication technology.
7. What challenges did you overcome to write this book? Pain. I had three separate, unrelated injuries that occurred when I was writing. Much of this book was written in a state of unmedicated delirium in response to pain. It was a fascinating ‘trip’
8. How would you describe your writing style? I write novels as a script first to give myself linear perspective to the narrative arc and key dialogue. The story-telling style then tends to flow in a way that is similar to a film. Reviewers often remark on the style as being unique or refreshing.
9. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? If readers are curious about a mysterious event that includes a fusion of of science, spirituality and exotic locations, that leaves them pondering about what is truth and what is not, this story may be the perfect option.
