Interview With Author Denise E. Basore

1. What inspired you to write this book? After my husband died, the book kept rattling around in my head. I called a publisher and, much to my surprise, they were interested. They asked me how much was actually written. At the time it was basically just an outline in my head. The told me to get outline out of my head and onto paper. Once I did that, it came together pretty quickly.

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? My marriage was a train wreck until my husband started reading the Bible. He changed. Subsequently, my marriage changed. We were at war with each other for the first 10 years. Then we had 20 really good years. This book is for others who might be struggling with marriage.

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? That bad relationships can turn around if both parties are willing.

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? I saw my marriage as a ray of light through storm clouds. So I asked the artwork folks to create that for me.

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Write what you are passionate about but do not write thinking you will get rich.

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? When my husband was alive, we had an actual library in the house. Now, I have all my books on my Kindle.

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? The entire book is my personal life - good, bad and truly ugly.

8. How would you describe your writing style? A casual conversation among friends. Which writers or books is your writing similar to? I honestly don't know.

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? It stirred up a lot of emotions that I thought I had put to rest. Because, the process of getting a book published requires reading and re-reading it several times, I felt really raw until the final draft.

10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? It's an authentic peek into the struggles of one family trying to navigate a world that is so much bigger and scarier than the world many of us grew up in. Having said that, it's under 90 pages so you can read it in an afternoon on the beach.
