Interview with Author J.D. Netto

1. What inspired you to write this book? The Echoes of the Fallen Stars series in its entirety is a tribute to those who never thought themselves worthy of an epic journey. In the series, Bellwound has to defy all odds against him while unraveling his own truth along the way.

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for? The book follows Bellwound, an eighteen-year-old boy who is faced with a daunting truth: Lucifer’s lost epistle was buried beneath his house. When visited by an immortal Nephilin, another dark secret is revealed: Lucifer and the Creator were lovers before enemies. These books were written for the curious and inquisitive mind.

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? The boldness to go on their journey without remorse.

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design? The concept for the cover came to me when I had the idea for the title. I finished chapter one and realized this part of the tale would have mortals and gods defying each other. I sketched the winged Bellwound statue right after, adding the snake once I realized what the animal meant on the tale. My team rendered the statue, and I finished designing the cover.

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Pick your projects wisely. You’ll be spending many hours immersed in them.

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?  As a gay Brazilian American man, I am absolutely overjoyed with so many diverse stories emerging across the world. Fingers crossed this industry continues to provide a platform for various voices to share their tales.

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?  As a man who spent his teens and his early twenties in Christianity, the lessons I learned in Sunday School came in quite handy when creating my own mythology.

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? My voices vary according to the genre. I’d say my style adapts to the message I want to convey.

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book? I was challenged to keep on believing this story was worth telling despite all the criticism and backlash it garnered from religious groups.

10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? We all crave an escape from this world. My books are not only a gateway for another dimension, but also a seed for thought and conversation. Hopefully those things alone inspire readers across the world to read them.
