Do Writers Have What It Takes to Succeed?

How do authors write the books that they believe in, get them published, and ensure they are marketed strongly? I have a few clues to share with you.

I have been promoting authors over a span of 12,000 days. Think about how many conversations I have had with authors, the news media, publishers, literary agents, bookstores, librarians and other partners in the book marketing ecosystem. It must be over 100,000.  I have learned what it takes for authors to be successful at writing, publishing, and marketing their books.

It may very well come down to this: Do you possess some measure of persistence, assertiveness, and craftiness?  What, dear author, are you willing, able, and determined to do?

Let’s explore this further and evaluate what the modern-day author needs in order to succeed.

Persistence. Will you keep in hot pursuit of your dream, regardless of the challenges, rejections, and naysayers that you will need to overcome?

Resilience. Can you endure when the times get tough and your belief in your work is under fire?

Endure no matter the odds. Will you keep pushing against what is always an uphill battle, ready to fight what everyone says is a lost cause?

Don’t accept no. Try again. Try another person. Try another way.  Ignore criticism that is unfounded and learn from those who are constructively trying to help you. Keep an eye on the prize and set big goals for yourself.

Assertiveness will need to be your way of life.
Be pushy.  Ask for help.  Ignore the odds and act with no fear of failure.

Craftiness will be your main asset. Identify your resources —- people, ideas, circumstance, time, money, experience, and of course your writing ability — and make a plan of action. Then execute it without looking back.

It is showtime. Get out there and pursue your dream and destiny!
