Interview With Author Cynthia James

1. What inspired you to write this book?  I coach a myriad of people around the world an one of their major concerns has to do with how to bring their voices into situations, being powerless and feeling unseen and unheard.

2. What exactly is it about and who is it written for?  It is about my seven decades on this planet and the lessons I have learned.  It covers 7 decades, the cultural impact of each decade, my story in each decade and lessons I have learned.

3. What do you hope readers will get out of reading your book? I want them to walk away being inspired and having tools to support them feeling empowered and expansive.

4. How did you decide on your book’s title and cover design?  The title came from work with a coach asking me questions and the cover came from work with the publisher’s design team.

5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers – other than run!? Your voice, experience, and creativity is needed.  Creative spirits have made huge impact throughout history.  Don’t be afraid to step out.

6. What trends in the book world do you see -- and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? People are buying less books. They are connecting through kindle, online book programs and audible (recorded books).  People are super busy and not ready as much as they did in the past.

7. Were there experiences in your personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book? The entire book is full of my life experiences.

8. How would you describe your writing style? Which writers or books is your writing similar to? I write like I am having a conversation with the reader and inviting them into the dialogue.  I think I am similar to Michelle Obama. She is a storyteller and so am I.

9. What challenges did you overcome in the writing of this book?  First, being willing to be really vulnerable and open myself up; secondly - dealing with the moments of fear, regret, and intense learning.

10. If people can buy or read one book this week or month, why should it be yours? Because I believe we are all unique and have gifts to bring to the planet. This book offers tools to help you step into your destiny.
