Many authors would benefit from a successful blogging approach that involves them having a blog, having others guest-post on their blog, and them guest-posting on the blogs of others.
Let’s explore these three areas further:
Having A Blog
This is a no-brainer. You are a writer. Write. Publish your blog once a week- frequent enough to remain relevant and remain a useful tool for social media marketing - but not so often that you saturate the market or burden yourself with having to pump out a lot of content. The reason to have a blog is two-fold. First, it showcases your writing, insights, and passions. Someone reads your blog and they may get inspired to buy your book. Second, it’s useful to have something to include in your posts on social media platforms.
Accepting Guest Blog Posts
By accepting guest-blog posts, you save yourself
the trouble of writing a post that day. Further, the guest-poster will likely
share the link to his or her followers, growing your readership.
Posting On Blogs As A Guest
By writing on another blog, you get to mention your book and website and their forum provides you with potentially new readers.
Where Should You Guest-Post?
Ideally on blogs with high readership, preferably ones with targeted demographics that overlap with your targeted readers. You can post on site read by other book buyers or people who profess an interest in your subject matter.
Whom Do You Want To Guest-Post?
Someone with large numbers of followers, especially those who are interested in your subject matter. Hopefully the person writes well, but that is secondary to what he or she brings to the table.
Where Do You Find Bloggers To Solicit Guest-Posts
From?
Simply go online and google bloggers in your genre or subject matter. Think of what you want to offer them after reading their blog samples. Be sure to query them, using relevant keywords and appealing to their interests.
Things to ask a blogger who agrees to have you guest-blog:
- Do they need a visual image supplied?
- What’s the deadline?
- Is there a minimum/ maximum word-count?
- Do they have certain topics that are designed - or
off-limits?
- Will they include your name, book title, and website with the post?
Blogging can serve authors well -- give it a shot and explore both sides of the guest-blogging world.
