Marketing a book,
networking, and promoting your brand have their challenges in good times, but while
looking to operate effectively during the pandemic when you can’t meet in
person or attend events, how do you successfully win people over?
In person, you can
show warmth and openness to others by shaking a hand, through physical
posturing, changes in your voice, a warm smile, or a look in your eye. There is
a certain level of energy that can be felt when in a room with others. So how
do you convey such things via phone, an email, or a zoom chat?
For email, use your words and images to convey how you feel.
For phone calls, people can hear your energy in your voice and energy.
For zoom, be visual. Present professionally, dress up, and speak with enthusiasm.
Frequency of contact also gives people a feeling of how much you care.

Many of the rules
are still the same. Here is your cheat sheet to connecting and engaging with others, whether in person, by phone, email, or streaming video:
·
Always be
friendly.
Speak with enthusiasm and excitement.

·
Express
agreeable morals,/values, and operating principles, where possible.
·
Sound
human and reference a real life thing in your life.
·
Tell a
joke (but avoid politics/sex/religion).
·
Ask questions and sound interested.
·
Show you

·
Share
useful ideas, advice, or information.
·
Follow up
and do what you say you will do.
·
Offer to
be of help and provide extras: additional service, free items, generous financial terms.
Project confidence and strength. Exhibit a
positive attitude. Put aside your initial reason for talking to this person – and focus on connecting with them on a personal level and the rest will fall into
place.
You can be a great communicator, no matter the medium. Speak from the heart and all will move in the right direction.
