1. Why did you write this book?
Because it’s what I do.
2. What is it about and who is it really for?
My son is a logger, and I find his profession inspiring, after
which I created the jaded young Amish woman to weave a story for the readers of
Amish romance.
3. What do you hope readers will get out
of reading your book?
That we can decide what we want and what we don’t, but
ultimately, we are in God and God is in us and He directs our steps.
4. How did you decide on your book’s title and
cover design?
\The cover design is solely the publisher’s. I never see them
before the book is finished. The title was a suggestion after reading a poem
from an old dog-eared composition book of my mother’s.
5. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for
fellow writers?
Just go with your gut. Listen to your thoughts.
6. What trends in the book world do you see --
and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading?
It’s hard for me to say, as very few books hold my interest,
especially modern writers. I grew up reading the classics, was introduced to
real books by my daughter, and never looked back.
Unfortunately, I don’t read Christian romance, only the books
that are real, as in, genuine—Elizabeth Strout, Kent Haruf. The
Shipping News [by E. Annie Proulx is my favorite of all time. There
will always be books for genuine readers, people writing stories, for better or
for worse.
7. Were there experiences in your
personal life or career that came in handy when writing this book?
Everywhere, all the time.
8. How would you describe your writing style?
Which writers or books is your writing similar to?
My writing has no style. I listen to my thoughts. I aspire to be
what I can never be, my religion restricting what is permissible. If I was English
[non-Amish], my stories would include the actuality of life.
9. What challenges did you overcome in the
writing of this book?
I have no real challenges. I write in the same way I created
quilts. I go to the library and the flow is there, seated at a table upstairs.
10. If people can buy or read one book this
week or month, why should it be yours?
To help others understand God’s weaving the tapestry of our
life, His plan based on infinite love, whether we understand it or not.
